Wow. What a crazy quarter of a year (double wow!) since my last blog post. I’m almost in the position to start posting more often again, so I thought I’d wet my whistle with a little update on what’s been happening the last few months.

I’ll start with a tl;dr version:

  • Got a new cat
  • Got married
  • Moved house
$this->wed();

$this->wed();

Besides having a baby (steady, now) these are considered some of the most stressful things you can do. The getting married part was a breeze. My wonderful (now) wife pretty much organised the lot, giving us all mini projects and achievable tasks to work on, bringing it all together at the end to create the killer app of all weddings. I’m considering sending her back in to education to study project management. Regardless, I now have a wife, and I’m rather pleased about it.

Moving house was probably the most stressful thing I’ve ever done in my life, which is quite odd considering I’ve done it almost as many times as the years I’ve been alive. Alas, I’ve now left the rural sparsities of Lincolnshire, gladly back over the bridge to the safe, warm lights of Hull. It’s lovely being here, but the journey was long and arduous.

Oh, the new cat is called Gordon by the way. His friends call him Freeman.

Thanks to the wonderful, understanding employers I have (and, I hope, the hard work I’ve put in over the years) I am now in the fortunate position of working from home. I have a new office with everything I need to complete my day to day work. A lot of people say “Wow, I wish I could do that,” and almost as many say “Wow, I don’t know how you stay motivated.” To the latter all I’d say is you need to find a job that you find stimulating, challenging and fun. I actually find I work much more now that I work from home than I did when I was travelling to the office. Productivity is up, as is employee satisfaction. As is my Last.fm play count*, without the stifling speaker police.

I have a few more freelance web sites to finish before I throw myself in to my next project, which will undoubtedly provide me with more interesting things to learn, enjoy and share. It’s good to be back!

* Currently listening to a lot of Christmas songs. This may or may not skew my music taste, depending on Last.fm’s understanding. Oh, and as pointed out by my best man during his speech, my love for Enya.
